The southern most tip
Kanyakumari is at the southern most tip of India, where the Arabian Sea meets the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean and as expected millions of Hindus come here for a ritual dip. Rise up early for sunrise, which is applauded like a performance by the hundreds who gather for the show. Kanya Devi or the Virgin Goddess and her diamond nose ring, her pining for the Lord Siva add to the aura of the place.
Besides sunrise, sunset and moonrise are also events in Kanyakumari and trips to the Vivekanada Rock for the spiritually inclined is a must. The temple here is the stuff of legends with the Goddess and her oath to remain an unmarried virgin till Siva marries her, captivates the mind. Sucheendram temple nearby with the butter offering, Nagercoil and the old town of Kottar, all offer ample for day trips.
